I guess all of us at one time or another wonders what will happen to us if we get old or sick. But I wonder what goes through the mind of an old family pet when everyone quits caring? This is what happens to a wonderful old Chow we decided to call "Matty"
No one cared anymore so she was left in the backyard until someone called the Animal Control Officier of the town in which they lived. Being an animal lover, the ACO gave the people one week to get the dog to a vet and to a groomer. Being the kind of people they are, they didn't want to be bothered with her anymore. She was brought to Contented Critters and signed in as a stray. After so many years at this, it's fairly easy for us to spot a liar. The ACO was called and we got the facts. We didn't know the dogs name, so she was named Matty, which for her was fitting.
We took Matty to the vet and a groomer. The vet judged her to be between 7 and 10 years old. She doesn't see too well, and she moves very slow. She was so full of matts she could barely walk. Matts grew together between her legs because she hadn't been groomed in a very long time. She lost the tips of her ears from being outside on hot summer days and flies eating them. Same with her nose, scars from fly bites. The vet said she was in a deplorable state!
With time and love she will make a wonderful recovery! If you have room in your home and heart to help an animal like Matty, please click on one of the links below. Matty now has a home in McKinley.
